The Footsteps Difference

Children guide the day

Our Reggio Emilia– and Montessori-influenced approach treats the environment as a teacher. Teachers observe closely, follow children’s interests, and use gentle language throughout the day.

  • Child-led, hands-on play with open-ended and recycled materials
  • Feelings named with care and language narrated in real time
  • Spanish and English woven into activities, books, songs, and routines
  • Climbing, garden exploration, sensory play, and practical life skills
A Toddler Day

Familiar enough to feel safe, flexible enough for wonder

Children move through free play, circle time, outdoor exploration, a hands-on learning activity, meals, rest, and more child-led play.

Language & connection

Teachers narrate the day and help toddlers find words for their ideas, needs, and feelings.

Practical independence

Dressing, feeding, brushing teeth, and caring for belongings become meaningful parts of learning.

Whole-body discovery

Climbing, digging, pouring, building, and outdoor play support coordination and confidence.

Good to Know

The basics parents ask about

Big feelings

Teachers get down at the child’s level, name what they see, and offer gentle words and choices during hitting, biting, grabbing, or conflict.

Rest & potty learning

Children have nap or quiet rest. Toilet training is not required; teachers partner with families when a child shows readiness.

Family communication

Brightwheel shares daily photos and care updates. A separation guide and first-day play date help families begin with confidence.
